The Men's Open Tournament

Welcome to the Royal Tunbridge Wells
Open Bowls Tournament Home Page.

Finalists at this years Royal Tunbridge Wells Men's Tournament
held at the Tunbridge Wells BC on 16 August 2008.
The 2008 Finals Day of the Tunbridge
Wells Men’s Tournament was held on Saturday 16th August at the
Tunbridge Wells Bowls Club.
The excitement of the day was created by the Pairs Final between Graham Bridges
and Paul Eldridge from the Grosvenor BC and Ken Smith and Colin Ray from
Southborough BC. After many years of trying this was the first time that Smith
and Ray had reach a Final of this Tournament.
This game became a very close affair with Bridges & Eldridge leading 9 – 5 after
11 ends. The scores were 9 all after 15 ends and 15 all after 21 ends. This
necessitated an extra end. Smith & Ray gave away the right to deliver the jack
and bowl the first wood of the end.
Eldridge drove the jack into the ditch with his very first wood and landed right
beside the jack. It was impossible to get a wood any closer to the jack. The end
and the game was won by this very unusual incident.
Earlier the Singles was won by Duncan
Hanmore, who had a victory over Ted Morgan. This is the sixth year in a row that
Hanmore has been Champion.
In the Courier Sponsored Triples Final a
team from Calverley BC Eric Rodgers, Mick Guntrip and Tim Hendley beat a team
from Grosvenor BC Mike Smithers, Paul Eldridge and Graham Bridges.
